Cotton is grown as a cash crop by family farms in developing countries. During the growth period, one hectare of cotton plants absorbs approximately 11 tonnes of CO2 and releases 8 tonnes of oxygen. The substrate can be disposed of by composting to create natural fertilisers to improve soil quality
